La institución de la clientela fue una de las bases fundamentales de la República romana, cuya importancia quedó demostrada durante las guerras civiles que permitieron el paso en Roma de la República al Principado.

La clientela de Cneo Pompeyo Magno (cos. I 70 a.C.) en Hispania fue tan importante como famosa, considerada incluso como paradigmática en su género, pero hasta el día de hoy no ha recibido la atención que merece. La presente obra llena tal laguna.

En once capítulos se analiza la carrera de Pompeyo, la formación y evolución de su clientela, las bases en qué se sustentaba, las actividades para obtenerla, la propaganda, el apoyo recibido durante la guerra civil de los años 49-44 a.C. y el día después de la finalización de la contienda.

No sólo se estudia la clientela pompeyana de Hispania, sino también la de otras provincias romanas, a fin de poder dar una mayor visión de conjunto a este fenómeno.

El libro se complementa con una amplia bibliografía y varios índices para facilitar su consulta.

The institution of the clientship was one of the fundamental bases of the Roman Republic, whose importance was demonstrated during the civil wars that allowed the step in Rome from the Republic to the Principality.

The clienteship of Pompey the Great (cos. I 70 B.C.) in Hispania was as important as famous, even considered as paradigmatic in their class, but up the present it has not received the attention that deserves. This work corrects this gap.

In eleven chapters it is analyzed the career of Pompey, the formation and evolution of their clientship, your bases, activities and propaganda, the support received during the civil war of the years 49-44 B.C. and the day after the finalization of the war.

The Pompeian clientship of Hispania is not only studied, but also that of other Roman provinces, in order to be able to offer a better complete picture.

The book is supplemented with a wide bibliography and several indexes to facilitate its consultation.
